The story of railways at Statfold Barn Farm began with an oval of 2’0” track laid to complement the beautifully landscaped garden. As every railway needs an engine shed Graham constructed one from scratch in traditional style and using a number of original components, including the 1895 date stone above the door and cast iron window frames. A signal box equipped with Great Northern Railway signalling equipment was also added. Passenger services in the garden are usually operated using a single open coach hauled by the Simplex diesel CHARLEY. The difficulty experienced in identifying and acquiring a suitable steam locomotive in Britain to complement CHARLEY was the main reason for what happened next …
